Noting the wonderful and quiet work of those
engaged in faith-based efforts to serve seniors
in the Capital Region, participants in this
program will have an opportunity to share their
work and learn about the work of others. Our
multi-faith planning committee seeks to reach
people engaged in hands-on efforts promoting
healthy seniors. Through structured focus
groups we hope to learn about what you do, how
you define success, and the barriers and
supports to serving elders through faith
community efforts. Learning from your
experiences and ideas we plan to use this May
13th forum to develop an agenda as to how ENCR
and CDSIF can better support those engaged in
this critical work.

SPONSORING ORGANIZATIONS:
The Elder Network of the Capital Region seeks
to create an exemplary environment for all
aging individuals in the four main counties of
the Capital Region -- Albany, Rensselear,
Saratoga and Schenectady. With the active
participation of older persons in the planning
and implementation processes, ENCR strives to
promote a consortium of health networks, state
and local government, provider agencies, faith
communities, and the University at Albany that
works toward a measurable reduction in the need
for hospital care and institutionalization and
an increase in the quality of life and
independence of aging persons in the
four-county region. The Capital District Senior
Issues Forum is an interfaith and community
initiative of individuals and organizations
brought together to identify issues and
advocate for older seniors living in a variety
of settings. Forum participants - volunteers,
faith community representatives, housing
administrators, other providers, government
officials, former senior honorees, advocacy
group representatives and others - share a
common concern about potential actions
affecting seniors.
DIRECTIONS AND PARKING DIRECTIONS:
The First Lutheran Church Sanctuary is located
at 181 Western Avenue, although the building we
will be meeting in is behind the Church at 646
State Street. (Note: This is a "hidden" portion
of State Street, not connected to the stretch
the runs from Washington Park down to the
Capitol.) From the Capitol: Take Washington Ave
west (Rte 5). Turn slight left onto Washington
where it meets Central Ave. Stay straight onto
Western Ave. Go past the SUNY Downtown Campus
on your right. The Church is located after Lake
Avenue but before Quail Street on Western Ave.
After Lake Avenue, take the first right turn
onto Cortland Place with an immediate left turn
into the Church parking lot.
From Thruway West: Exit 24 (Northway 87), go
through tolls and take Western Avenue exit
(Route 20). Get into left lane and exit left
onto Western Avenue. Follow Western Ave past
SUNY Albany and State Government campus on
left. When road divides, stay left on Western
(not right onto Madison), and follow past
College of St. Rose. The Church is on your
left, just past Quail Street. After you pass
the Church, turn left onto Cortland Place, with
an immediate left turn into the Church parking
lot.
PARKING:
Use the Church Parking Lot, which you enter
from Cortland Place, off Western Avenue. If
registration exceeds the capacity of this
parking lot, First Lutheran Church will also
open the parking lot that is adjacent to 181
Western Avenue. (This lot is on the West side
of the Church sanctuary - located on the North
side of Western Avenue and about half way
between Quail Street and Cortland Place.)
Participants are welcome to bring brochures
and program information for our display
table.
We hope you will join us!!
